One of the most solemn duties for a United States senator is to vote on whether the Senate will confirm a presidential appointee.

Senator Marco Rubio (pictured below) has voted to confirm four out of four of the most recent nominees for the position of Secretary of State, whether they be Democrat or Republican. Unlisted Thoughts commends Senator Rubio’s consistency.

Unlisted Thoughts is advised that Senator Rubio is the presumptive nominee of US President-elect Donald “Hair Boy” Trump for the coveted position of Secretary of State. Therefore, if Senator Rubio is to properly assume the role, he must be confirmed by the Senate.

Unlisted Thoughts therefore calls on Senator Rubio to vote for his own confirmation when the time comes in the Senate.

We recognise this would break with norms respected by then Senators Clinton in 2009 and Kerry in 2013, who were either present or not voting for their confirmation vote. However, as Senator Rubio will be part of a presidential administration that does not respect norms and precedence, especially when made by Democrats, Unlisted Thoughts sees no issue with Senator Rubio voting to confirm his own nomination.

Unlisted Thoughts believes that Senator Rubio will go far as the Secretary of State—both literally and figuratively as he manages the US relations with tyrants and strong men across the world. For that reason, Unlisted Thoughts believes that Senator Rubio must vote to confirm himself.
